MKPANI LEBOKU NEW YAM FESTIVAL: THE FESTIVAL OF PEACE

The 2024 Mkpani LEBOKU Festival has been announced and tagged as the "Festival of Peace". The announcement period is the beginning of the peace period. Oral history about the period attests that, It is the period of security watch. The period of calmness. It is the period where the external enemies usual strike. The Leboku festival is the annual new yam festival celebrated in Mkpani and Yakurr in general. It is the event that marks the traditional year of harvest and gratification for the successes in labour. It is also the period of reconciliation and sober reflection in which the past is reminiscence to the present and unto the future. The celebration always takes place in September and some years early October. In Mkpani, the celebration of Leboku festival usually take place on September through October of the year.
